Small stalls, big fun - "June 1" Flea Market at Dujiangyan Wanhui School

"An unused toy, an ordinary book, a delicate piece of artwork will be a rose in our hands."

Every child has toys at home that they are tired of playing with and can't throw away; most of the toys, books and supplies that they have grown up with are either being replaced or left unused, so it's a good idea to sell them at the Wanhui Flea Market.

On the afternoon of 1 June 2021, Dujiangyan Wanhui Academy held a flea market with the theme of "Wanhui Fun Flea Market". The market was filled with a wide range of items including toys, stationery, books, hair clips, potted plants and so on.

The Wanhui children were transformed into little bosses of the lively flea market. The children brought in change from home, chose their favourite items and designed their stalls in advance in a unique and fun way. Once the children had set up the items they had brought, they quickly got into their roles and became the "little bosses" of the stalls, shouting "Don't miss it! It was a good show!

In the gentle night breeze, the pace of friends slowed down to a childish hooting and hollering meeting a joyous paradise that needed no excuse. Soon many of the stalls were sold out.
The children were all smiling happily as they watched their carefully prepared items sell out.

To meet the needs of students' rapid growth, a personality development programme is offered at Wanhui. The content of the programme will promote the development of students' potential and enhance their overall literacy, and this flea market activity is an extension of the programme.

Parents are always worried that their children will develop the habit of spending money recklessly and not saving, but this activity not only allowed the children to experience first-hand how difficult it is to earn money, but also how to balance consumption and treasure every bit of the fruits of their labour. The whole process of selling items not only exercised children's language skills, interpersonal skills and comprehensive practical skills, it was also a trading experience and a surprise exchange between partners, harvesting happiness and growth between give and take.
